Biography

Timothy Madden

Bass-baritone Timothy Madden, hailed by the Chicago Stage Standard as "endlessly fun, full-voiced, totally physicalized," has been especially praised for his work in comedic roles. He gave "an excellent comic performance" in his debut as Sir Despard in Theater at Monmouth's Ruddigore (David A. Sargent, Sun Journal), and Meizhu Lui of Big Island Music Magazine applauded his "impressive physical comedy skills" and "rich bass-baritone" in Hawai'i Performing Arts Festival's A Midsummer Night's Dream. For the 2020-2021 season, Timothy joined Opera Colorado as an Artist in Residence. He was slated to sing Zuniga in Bizet’s Carmen and the Senator in Moravec’s The Shining, and cover Horace Derwent in The Shining before these performances were cancelled due to COVID-19. In their place, he participated in exciting online content generated for young audiences across the state and country and received coaching from Opera Colorado’s staff, including music director Ari Pelto. Timothy was recently seen as Smudge in Forever Plaid with Musical Theater Heritage. In 2020, he was scheduled to sing Superintendent Budd in Britten’s Albert Herring as a guest artist with the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Other scheduled performances included singing Samuel in The Pirates of Penzance and covering Elder 4/Administrator in Sky on Swings with Opera Saratoga, singing Jupiter in Platée with Opera NEO, and covering Vaudemont and Béthune in I vespri siciliani with New Amsterdam Opera.
