Biography

Ting-Yi Chen

Ting-Yi Chen, baritone, hails from Taiwan. He graduated from the Music Department of National Tsing Hua University and later pursued advanced studies in the United States, earning a master’s degree from Mannes School of Music in New York. Currently, he is a doctoral candidate in vocal performance at Michigan State University, where he studies on a full scholarship.

An active presence on opera stages worldwide, Chen has performed as a bass soloist in Berio’s Sinfonia with the Mannes Orchestra at Lincoln Center. He has taken on prominent roles at New York’s Amore Opera, including Leporello in Mozart’s Don Giovanni and both the Bonze and Prince Yamadori in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly. Additionally, he was invited to the Trentino Music Festival in Italy, where he portrayed the title role of Figaro in Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro.

In 2023, Chen was a featured soloist at National Tsing Hua University’s anniversary concert at the National Taichung Theater, performing as the bass soloist in Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy. In 2022, he was named an Emerging Artist by the Republic of China Vocalists Association and performed at the National Concert Hall in Taipei. In 2019, he competed in the 14th Cross-Strait University Singing Competition in Xiamen, China, where he earned third place.
