Biography

Triniti Rives

Clarinetist Triniti Rives joined the Detroit Symphony Orchestra in 2025 as an African American Orchestra Fellow. Prior to the fellowship, she performed as a guest with The Florida Orchestra, Virginia Symphony Orchestra, New World Symphony, and has appeared as a pre-concert performer for the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. Remaining active over the summer, Rives has attended the Music Academy of the West, National Orchestral Institute + Festival, and Eastern Music Festival. She can be heard performing throughout the NOI Philharmonic’s sixth album (2023), particularly as principal clarinet on Aaron Copland’s The Tender Land Suite, released by Naxos Records under the direction of JoAnn Falletta.

As a community artist and lover of chamber music, Rives served as a 2024-25 Young Artist with the DACAMERA of Houston, and has fostered relationships with other notable programs and organizations, including the Detroit Chamber Winds and Strings, Just for U Music Program (JUMP!), and Vision Possible Charity Concerts. She was a featured performer at the 2025 Chamber Music America Conference, and has been involved in many premieres and performances of works by emerging and/or underrepresented composers, including Nathalie Joachim, Valerie Coleman, Adolphus Hailstork, and Karalyn Schubring, among others. Rives is an alumna of Sigma Alpha Iota - Alpha Chapter, where she regularly organized community-focused concerts as the chair of the Education and Community Engagement committee.

As a competitor, Rives was a finalist in the 2024 Sphinx Orchestral Partners Auditions. She has also earned recognition in the 2023 Briggs Chamber Music Competition as an honorable mention recipient, and the 2023 Coltman Chamber Music Competition as a semi-finalist, both with her former group, the Novus Reed Quintet, who are recipients of the Gottlieb Variations Award from the University of Michigan’s School of Music, Theatre and Dance.

Originally from Fayetteville, Georgia, Rives earned her Bachelor of Music with high honors from the University of Michigan under the tutelage of Daniel Gilbert and Chad Burrow, and her Master of Music from Rice University under the tutelage of Richie Hawley. Additionally, Rives is an alumna of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra’s Talent Development Program, where she received early guidance from clarinetists Marci Gurnow and Heather Rodriguez. Beyond music, Rives enjoys participating in recreational archery, baking, and gaming on her Nintendo Switch.
