Vera Romero is an accomplished French horn player born in Caracas, Venezuela, and currently a sophomore at the Manhattan School of Music, where she studies under the esteemed Michelle Baker. Vera's musical journey began at the age of 11 in Austin, Texas, where she was mentored by Dr. Patrick Creel. During her time in Texas, she earned a place in the TMEA All-State Orchestra twice, achieving a remarkable 2nd chair position in the state by 2023.
In the spring of 2023, Vera competed in the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition, where she performed with her woodwind quintet, Rosso Corsa Winds. This experience was a prelude to a landmark summer, during which she participated in Carnegie Hall's National Youth Orchestra of the United Sates of America (NYO-USA). There, she had the honor of playing principal horn on the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto, conducted by the illustrious Sir Andrew Davis, and accompanied by the world-renowned soloist Hilary Hahn. Her performances took her to some of the most prestigious venues in the country, including Carnegie Hall, Meyerson Symphony Center, Jacobs Music Center, and Schermerhorn Symphony Center.
Upon moving to New York City for her studies, Vera continued to make her mark by joining the New York Youth Symphony. With this ensemble, she has also performed at Carnegie Hall, playing principal horn on various concertos. In addition to these performances, the most treasured achievement of hers came early in her conservatory career when she auditioned for and secured the position of principal horn in the Manhattan School of Music Symphony Orchestra’s performance of Mahler's Symphony No. 5, a remarkable feat for a freshman.
During her time at the conservatory, Vera has also had the unique opportunity to play for world-renowned hornists such as Erik Ralske, Julie Landsman, Jennifer Montone, Richard Deane, and David Jolley. This exposure has been invaluable in refining her craft and expanding her artistic horizons.
Alongside her performance career, Vera has begun imparting her knowledge and passion for music by teaching young horn students in Austin. Her commitment to education reflects her dedication to fostering the next generation of musicians.
Vera Romero is driven by a profound love for music and performance. As she continues her studies at the conservatory, she is focused on advancing her skills and aspirations. She aims to become a leading representative for female Venezuelan musicians, contributing to a more diverse and inclusive musical landscape.
