Hana Yiu is a New York–based contralto originally from Hong Kong.
Last season, she sang a cover performance the role of Mrs. Atkins in Teatro Grattacielo’s world premiere production of Beyond the Horizon by Nicolas Flagello and librettist Walter Simmons, based on the Pulitzer Prize winning play with the same name by Eugene O’Neill. She also appeared as alto soloist in Vivaldi’s Magnificat and Vaughan Williams’ Serenade to Music with the Colgate University Chorus and Hamilton College Choir. At NYC SongSLAM hosted by Sparks & Wiry Cries, she premiered the Cantonese art song Soaring into the Light, celebrating AAPI voices and her cultural heritage.
Her other notable roles include the Witch in Engel Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel, Mother in Gian Carlo Menotti’s Amahl and the Night Visitors and Florence Pike in Benjamin Britten’s Albert Herring.
Hana currently holds a long-term residency as soloist and chorister at the Riverside Church. She finished her Master’s degree in Vocal Performance from The Hartt School and her Bachelor of Music from the Manhattan School of Music.
