New York-based soprano, Whitney Martin, is on a mission to demystify opera for untapped audiences. In 2024, Whitney joined the Opera Collective, which places emphasis on bringing opera to unconventional spaces through its work with MTA Music. This opportunity has allowed her to bring excerpts of roles such as “Leonora” in Il Trovatore and La Forza Del Destino, “Salome” in Herodiade, and “Donna Anna” in Don Giovanni to thousands of commuters traveling through subway stations around NYC.
As a Virginia native, Whitney has performed various roles with Richmond-based companies, including Commonwealth Concert Opera as “Leonora” in Il Trovatore, “Merecedes” in Carmen, and “Elisabeth” in excerpts from Tannhäuser, as well as covering Countess Almaviva in Capital Opera’s production of Marriage of Figaro.
