William Kelley is a versatile artist, equally accomplished as a conductor and pianist in a wide array of repertoire. He has conducted orchestras including the Luzerner Sinfonieorchester, Prague Radio Symphony, Gürzenich Orchester Köln, Bremer Philharmoniker, and the 21st Century Orchestra and taken part in masterclasses with David Zinman and Nicolas Pasquet. He made his conducting debut in 2017 with the Luzerner Sinfonieorchester and Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte and conducted the world-premiere of Heydenaber’s In Amt für Todesangelegenheiten in the 2018 Lucerne Festival. As a pianist, Kelley studied at The Juilliard School and has performed at Alice Tully Hall, the Caramoor Festival, Trinity Wall Street’s Twelfth Night Festival, and accompanied masterclasses for Yannick-Nezet Seguin, Fabio Luisi, Emmanuel Villaume, and Joyce DiDonato. Kelley is currently 2. Kapellmeister at Theater Bremen. During the 2019/2020 season, he conducted Abraham’s Märchen im Grand Hotel, Carmen.maquia (version for ballet), and Piazzolla’s Tango Operetta, María de Buenos Aires. In 2018, debuts included a world premiere in the Lucerne Festival: Im Amt für Todesangelegenheiten (Heydenaber, 2018) with the 21st Century Orchestra, a concert with the Prague Radio Symphony and tenor, Petr Nekoranec, and a return to the Luzerner Sinfonieorchester for Mozart’s Don Giovanni.
