Currently a Resident Artist at the Academy of Vocal Arts and a graduate of the Bachelor of Music from The Glenn Gould School of The Royal Conservatory of Music - Zachary Rioux is a tenor born in Grand Falls, New Brunswick, Canada.
Praised by Matthew Timmermans of Ludwig van Toronto as “A Show-Stopping Tenor”, Zachary Rioux is currently a Resident Artist at the Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia, where he studies with Sally Wolf. While he pursued a Bachelor of Music from the Glenn Gould School of the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, he was a student of Joel Katz and Jennifer Tung. Zachary Rioux’s operatic experience includes productions of Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro and Donizetti’s La favorite with the Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia; Verdi’s La traviata and Corigliano’s The Ghosts of Versailles with the Glimmerglass Festival; Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, as Tamino with BrottOpera, Toronto City Opera, and with the Glenn Gould School; and Mozart’s Idomeneo, Lucio Silla, and The Marriage of Figaro with Opera Atelier. In concert, Zachary has performed works with L’orchestre classique de Montréal, the Mississauga Symphony Orchestra, and the National Academy Orchestra. In 2018, he performed as a finalist for the Opéra de Montréal’s 'Gala Talent'. He also participated in the IRCPA’s Singing Stars: The Next Generation concert, and had Joseph So of Ludwig van Toronto write “He impressed with his lovely timbre and long breath-line”. Mr. Rioux has been active in the competition scene over the past few years, earning second place at the Mario Lanza Competition, a Gold Medal with High Distinction at the Berlin International Music Competition, and a Gold Medal at the 1st Vienna International Music Competition.
