Zongwei Zhang
(He/Him) Tenor Zongwei Zhang, from Anhui, China, is a first-year master’s student in voice performance at the Jacobs School of Music, studying with Carol Vaness. He has performed as Werther from Massenet’s Werther, Nemorino from Donizetti’s The Elixir of Love, Fritz from Mascagni’s L’amico Fritz, Monostatos from Mozart’s The Magic Flute, Ferrando From Mozart's Così fan tutte and as Torquemada  from Ravel's L'heure espagnole. He just finished the Performance of Ariadne auf Naxos in Chicago. He will perform Le Prince Charmant in Massnet's Cendrillion at next year.

Biography

Zongwei Zhang

Zongwei Zhang, Tenor, is currently pursuing his second year of the Master of Music degree in Voice at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, where he studies with Professor Carol Vaness. Originally from Anhui China, he has appeared with IU Opera Workshop in roles such as Werther (Werther), Fritz (L’amico Fritz), Nemorino (L’elisir d’amore), Monostatos (The Magic Flute), Ferrando (Così fan tutte), Torquemada (L’heure espagnole), and will be performing the Chevalier de la Force (Dialogues des Carmélites). At IU Musical Arts Center, he performed Le Remendado in Bizet’s Opera Carmen. 

This past summer, Zongwei performed the Dancing Master and Brighella in Strauss’s Ariadne auf Naxos with Chicago Summer Opera. In Spring 2026, he will sing Le Prince Charmant in Massenet’s Cendrillon at the IU Musical Arts Center. In Fall 2025, he will perform Parpignol in Puccini's La Bohème at IU Musical Arts Center 

He is a Silver Prize winner of the Prokofiev International Music Competition.
