Amelia Korbitz is a fourth-year scholarship student at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music studying under Dr. Won-Bin Yim. She is a member of the Philharmonia Orchestra and a violinist in the Antigone Quartet. She was a student at the Western Springs School of Talent Education with Thomas Wermuth, Nancy Jackson and Sherri DeRoche from 2005-2019. She has also attended the Pfaelzer Tuition Free Conservatory at the Merit School of Music where she served as Concertmaster of the Philharmonic Orchestra and played in the Vernacular String Quartet. Amelia served as Concertmaster of the Downers Grove North Symphonic Orchestra from 2015-2019 and also performed in the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra.
Amelia recently won the UC College-Conservatory of Music Concerto Competition and has taken top honors at the New Philharmonic Orchestra’s Young Artist Competition. She has also placed in competitions held by the Elmhurst Symphony and the Illinois Philharmonic. Amelia has been a scholarship student at the Ascent International Chamber Music Festival, ENCORE String Quartet Intensive, Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival, Encore Advanced Chamber Orchestra, Green Lake Chamber Music Festival, and the Indiana University Summer String Academy. Amelia has performed in masterclasses with members of the Milwaukee Symphony, Chicago Symphony, the Ariel Quartet, the Calidore Quartet, the Cleveland Quartet, the Miro Quartet, Grammy Award winner Karen Kim, and Avery Fischer Grant winner Jennifer Frautschi.
Amelia and the Antigone Quartet, were recently finalists in the Glass City Chamber Competition; they have also placed third in the UC College-Conservatory of Music Chamber Music Competition. The group performs regularly throughout the Midwest and were invited to perform at the Southern Illinois Music Festival and Musica Malicorne Festival in France.
Recent solo performance highlights include Vivalid’s le Quattro Stagioni: Primavera with the West Suburban Symphony, Invierno with the Southern Illinois Music Festival Orchestra, Piazzolla’s Los Cuatros Estaciones Porteñas with the CCM Philharmonia Orchestra, Zigeunerweisen with the District 99 Orchestra, and benefit concerts for the Green Lake Chamber Festival with Grammy nominee Andrew Armstrong. She is also a freelance performer across the United States, and has recently performed with the Richmond Symphony, the Southern Illinois Music Festival Orchestra, the Green Lake Festival Orchestra, and with the Immaculata Chamber Music Series as a part of their Women’s History Month celebration.
