Bay Area native Connie Song is a violist with a passion for chamber music and community engagement. Right before the Covid-19 pandemic, she was invited by the Telegraph Quartet to participate in their first Intensive Chamber Music Project in 2020 at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. During her undergraduate career at UCLA, her chamber studies gave her opportunities to perform at the LACMA Bing Sundays Live Radio Broadcast, UC Regent’s Reception, and the UCLA Chancellor Residence. Connie’s scholarship and dedication also led her to be the recipient of the Friends of Strings Scholarship, the Ruth Marmelzat Chamber Music Scholarship, and the Compinsky Scholarship, and from 2017-2019, she was selected to participate in the Gluck Foundation program.
Outside of her commitment towards chamber music, Connie is a firm advocate of community engagement and explores the intersection between chamber music and community outreach by partnering with local organizations. Under the Max H. Gluck Foundation, an organization that strives to “address the educational, health, cultural, and creative needs” and disparities for the underserved communities in the Los Angeles area, Connie was an ambassador of the Gluck Fellows Music Outreach Program. Through Gluck, she performed music for those who do not readily have access to classical music while promoting mental health, providing classical music educational opportunities, and stirring musical inspiration for the next generation. Connie desires to share music to better the community around her and is continuing this work as a member of the Conservatory Connect program at SFCM.
Connie is currently a second-year Graduate Certificate student at USC studying viola performance with Yura Lee. Previously, she has earned her Masters of Music from SFCM studying with Dimitri Murrath, and has studied with Che-Yen Chen, Carla Maria Rodrigues, and Richard Yongjae O’Neill at UCLA. She also studied with Jodi Levitz in SFCM’s Pre-College division. She has participated in masterclasses with Kim Kashkashian, Pamela Frank, Jennifer Stumm, Jessica Bodner, the Calidore Quartet, and the Quatour Diotima. Her orchestral experience includes serving as the principal and section violist for both the SFCM Large Ensemble and the UCLA Philharmonia and playing as a member of the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra where she performed at some of the most prestigious halls in the world such as the Berliner Philharmonie, Het Concertgebouw, and Smetana Hall.
