Biography

Elliot Tyler

Elliot Tyler is a violist based in Rochester, New York. He began his studies at the Kanack School of Musical Artistry at age 6. He has served as principal violist of the Rochester Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, as well as several All-County and Area-All State ensembles. He was selected for the NYSSMA Conference All-State Symphony Orchestra in 2023. Having a particular passion for chamber music, Elliot has been an active participant in several ensembles from a young age, and his string quintet was awarded Best Ensemble at the Syracuse Friends of Chamber Music’s Youth Competition in 2024. He is incredibly thankful for the instruction and mentorship he currently receives from the Ying Quartet. He has attended summer festivals including Music at Port Milford and the Castleman Quartet Program. Masterclass appearances include those taught by Rachel Barton Pine, Juliana Athayde, and David Ying. He is currently a sophomore at the Eastman School of Music, pursuing a Bachelor of Music degree in viola performance under the guidance of Grammy Award-winning violist, Masumi Per Rostad. He owes a debt of gratitude to his previous teachers and mentors, Alice Kanack and Andrew Barnhart.
