Praised for her “lush tone” (CVNC Journal) and “quivering, sublime string acrobatics” (Take Effect Reviews), Chilean-American classical violist Georgina Rossi relishes a varied career on stage throughout South America and the United States. She has performed as soloist with the Orquesta Sinfónica Uncuyo in Mendoza, under the baton of Giovanni Guzzo, and with the Orquesta de Cámara de Chile, alongside music director Alejandra Urrutia, and frequently offers recitals and chamber performances in New York City, where she resides. Ms. Rossi is a tenured member of the Hartford Symphony. She holds a Master of Music degree from The Juilliard School, where she studied with Roger Tapping and was recipient of the Juilliard Scholarship, and received her Bachelor's in Music degree from the Manhattan School of Music. Raised in Santiago by clarinet-maker and soloist Luis Rossi and violist Penelope Knuth, Ms. Rossi began her viola studies with her mother before moving to the United States at sixteen after being selected as recipient of the Chilean National Arts grant FONDART, which funded her move abroad. Ms. Rossi plays an Argentinian viola by Leonardo Anderi made in 2014, and an 1820 German bow by Christian Whilhelm Knopf. Her debut CD, Mobili, was released in October on the New Focus Recordings label, featuring pianist Silvie Cheng and showcasing five Chilean composers. Rossi is also a painter and draftswoman. Mobili features her original artwork.
