Dr. Julia Bell is Visiting Assistant Professor of Trumpet at Texas Tech University. She is an enthusiastic music educator and performer of solo, chamber, and orchestral repertoire. Dedicated to promoting and performing new works and works by women, her recent solo appearances include a recital of solo trumpet works by women and performances in the New Works Recitals of both the International Women’s Brass and International Trumpet Guild Conferences. She serves as the Coordinator of New Works for the ITG.

Dr. Julia Bell is Visiting Assistant Professor of Trumpet at Texas Tech University. Bell was a member of the trumpet section of the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra for four years and has also performed with the Alabama Symphony Orchestra, Panama City Symphony Orchestra, Sinfonia Gulf Coast, Albany Symphony Orchestra (GA), Northwest Florida Symphony Orchestra, Mediterranean Opera Festival Orchestra, Blue Lake Festival Orchestra, and Miami Music Festival Orchestra. As a chamber musician, she has performed as a member of the University of South Alabama Faculty Brass Quintet, Big Bend Brass, and the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp Faculty Brass Quintet. Bell was the third-place winner of the Graduate Solo Division of the 2022 National Trumpet Competition and was a featured co-soloist with the Mantzaros Philharmonic during the 2023 Corfu International Trumpet Festival. Dedicated to promoting and performing new works and works by women, her recent solo appearances also include a lecture recital of solo trumpet works by women and performances in the New Works Recitals of both the International Women’s Brass Conference and International Trumpet Guild Conference.
Prior to her appointment at Texas Tech University, Bell taught at the University of South Alabama and Tarleton State University, as well as maintained an active private studio. She has presented masterclasses and recitals nationally and internationally, and has performed and presented clinics at the National Association of College Wind and Percussion Instructors Conference, International Trumpet Guild Conference, International Women’s Brass Conference, and New York State Music Teachers Association Virtual Symposium. She has been on the faculty of the Corfu International Trumpet Festival, Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, and Florida State University Summer Music Camps.
Active in arts administration, Bell is the New Works Coordinator for the International Trumpet Guild, the Advertising Director for the International Women’s Brass Conference Noteworthy Newsletter, and the Assistant Director of the 2024 Corfu International Trumpet Festival. She was previously the Season Coordinator for the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra’s 22-23 Season. Additionally, she serves as the Column Editor for the “Student Corner” of the International Trumpet Guild Journal and is a Production Editor for the International Women’s Brass Conference Noteworthy Newsletter.
Bell’s primary trumpet teachers have included Christopher Moore, John Rommel, Edmund Cord, and Kris Kwapis. She holds her Doctor of Music degree in Trumpet Performance with a Doctoral Specialized Study in Arts Administration from Florida State University, where she was a Graduate Teaching Assistant. She holds a Master of Music in Performance from Florida State University and a Bachelor of Music in Performance with a Certificate in Arts Administration from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music.
