Bass-Baritone, Poet and Teacher Lloyd Reshard, hails from northwest Florida. His “movements were as fluid and smooth as his baritone,” wrote John Lamb of INForum Fargo when reviewing Fargo Moorhead Opera’s recent production of Le Nozze di Figaro, with Lloyd as the title character. His 2022-23 season continued with Dr. Dulcamara in John Davies’ Pinocchio at St. Petersburg Opera Co., Balthazar in Menotti’s Amahl and the Night Visitors at Skylark Opera, Death in Holst’s Savitri with First Coast Opera and returning to Fargo in as Colline in La Boheme. Most recently, Lloyd returned to St. Petersburg Opera in the role of Haly in Rossini's L'Italiana in Algeri. In October, Lloyd will return to Opera Orlando in October as Angelotti in Tosca.
Other notable roles Lloyd has portrayed include: Zuniga in Opera Orlando’s 2021 production of Bizet’s Carmen set in Port-au-Prince, Haiti; Rev. Williams in GLOW Lyric Theatre’s 2022 production of Frances Pollock’s Stinney: An American Execution about the youngest American to be executed in the United States, George J. Stinney Jr., age 14; and an ensemble member in Opera Orlando’s 2019 production of All is Calm, an a capella choral work chronicling World War I’s Christmas Truce of 1914. His other Mozart roles include: Il Commendatore in Don Giovanni (2021) and Guglielmo in Così fan tutte (2019) both at Fargo-Moorhead Opera, as well as Speaker and Sarastro in The Magic Flute (2018) with Orchestra Miami.
Recently, Lloyd has written text in collaboration with Haitian-American composer Sydney Guillaume on two choral works, This, Too, Shall Pass (premiered by Master Chorale of Tampa Bay April 2022), Nou La (premiered by Phoenix Chamber Choir May 2022), and A Taste of Freedom (premiered by the Spokane Symphony and Chorale February 2023).
Lloyd was also the artistic director and a performer in the narrated song cycle Viola! Song Cycle, which chronicles the tragic accounts of Pensacola’s first black hospital named after its founder, The Viola Edward’s Hospital.
