Whitney Campbell is currently attending the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where she is studying with Rhoslyn Jones in the pursuit of her M.M. in Vocal Performance. At SFCM, she has portrayed Frau Fluth (Die lustigen Weiber von Windsor) in an opera scenes program and participated in numerous masterclasses and recitals. During her first year, she sang the role of Léontine in Joseph Bologne's L'amant anonyme with SFCM Chamber Opera. During the 2019/20 season, while studying under Luretta Bybee in New Orleans, Ms. Campbell portrayed Konstanze from Mozart's Die Entführung aus dem Serail in a scenes program. She was also a soprano soloist in Haydn's Lord Nelson Mass with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra. In 2019, Ms. Campbell graduated from Oberlin Conservatory of Music under the tutelage of Marlene Rosen, where she was granted both the Conservatory Dean’s Scholarship and the Mildre H. Davis Scholarship. She was also chosen by Marilyn Horne to be a 2019 Horne Rubin Scholar. While there, she was fortunate to have roles in multiple mainstage productions, including Madame Lidoine in Poulenc’s Dialogues des Carmélites, Mrs. Grose in Britten’s The Turn of the Screw, and Mrs. Gobineau in Menotti’s The Medium. In scenes, she portrayed Donna Anna (Don Giovanni), Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte), Suzel (L’amico Fritz), and Arabella (Arabella). She also appeared on the concert stage as the soprano soloist in Mozart’s Vesperae solennes de confessore. ​ Ms. Campbell has been active in the competition circuit as well. In 2020, she was a Semi-Finalist in the Camille Coloratura Awards. She was also named 2nd Place Winner in the University Division of the 2020 MIOpera Vocal Competition. Most recently, she was named a District Winner in the San Francisco district of the 2021 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions. Ms. Campbell has participated in masterclasses by sopranos Ailyn Pérez and Lisette Oropesa, pianists Craig Terry and Martin Katz, mezzo-sopranos Marilyn Horne and Stephanie Blythe, baritone Gordon Hawkins, among many others. ​ Ms. Campbell has participated in numerous summer programs, including Curtis Summerfest, Houston Grand Opera’s Young Artist Vocal Academy, the Hawaii Performing Arts Festival, and the Chautauqua Institution. At Chautauqua, she performed Helena in Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. She was also featured on Mikael Eliasen’s recital, entitled “To Spiro, With Love,” which honored the life of the late Spiro Malas. Last summer, Ms. Campbell was looking forward to being a 2020 Soprano Fellow in the Vocal Arts program at the Tanglewood Music Center, under the leadership of soprano Dawn Upshaw. However, all in-person activities at Tanglewood were cancelled due to concerns regarding the spread of COVID-19. Fortunately, she was still able to participate in their Online Festival. Additionally, Ms. Campbell was selected to participate in the 2020 Dandelion Opera Institute, where she was able to work remotely with a world-renowned faculty, including soprano Ailyn Pérez. ​ Ms. Campbell was planning on returning to Tanglewood as a Soprano Fellow in 2021, but the program was unfortunately cancelled due to concerns regarding Covid-19.
