I believe that historical instruments hold the key to contextualizing Schubert’s notations and performance practice. Through experimentation and performance on the Graf piano replica, I seek to incorporate these interesting findings into practical interpretations on the modern instrument, by offering fresh perspectives on the interactive relationship between soft dynamics and concurrent pedal usage in Schubert’s solo piano works. I intend to create audio-visual recordings of this exploration process, which will serve as tangible examples for future comparative analyses between historical and modern instruments.
