New York Theatre Barn is an anti-racist non-profit theatre company that serves as an inclusive home for original culture shifting musicals during incubation. The company has been incubating new musicals in front of live audiences since 2007, and creates space for artists to dream about how extraordinary the world can be.
The support of New York Theatre Barn means investment in process. We believe that there is no formula for musical theatre development, except authenticity. Stories shape how we see ourselves and those around us. In our unique position, we have the power to not only uplift and inspire, but also to champion the spectrum of voices in our world.
New York Theatre Barn has continued to support artists during the pandemic by producing live stream performances for an audience of 26,000+ viewers through YouTube and Broadway on Demand. Over the past tumultuous year, we have had the privilege of showcasing the development of 96 Original Musicals created by 181 Writers, while making space for over 600 Artists. We have connected thousands of artists and audiences from all over the world, and our live virtual programming was recognized by NAMT’s Innovation & Exploration Fund.
Representation and accessibility are important to us, so we are focused on the stories that need to be seen and whom those stories serve. With intention, we are actively expanding who has access to musical theatre developmental opportunities and are excited to seek out, curate and amplify culture shifting stories that lift up marginalized communities and artists, including BIPOC artists, artists with disabilities, queer artists, women-identifying artists, artists under 18, and artists over 60.
