Dr. Alex C. Ehredt is an award-winning composer, saxophonist, and music educator. His music is aimed at being approachable by the masses while touching on themes of social issues in America, mental health, and the beauty of urban landscapes. Dr. Ehredt currently serves as an Adjunct Professor of Music at the University of Tampa, and Saint Leo University. As a composer, Alex's works have been performed across the United States. Alex's most recent compositions include Ouroboros, a commission by the University of Tampa for the unveiling concert for the "Ar Sonora", the university's bell tower; and Assimilation, commissioned by the Trio de Minaret. Alex has received numerous awards for his compositions, most notably, the 2022-23 Atlantic Coast Conference Band Directors Association, James E. Croft Grant for Young and Emerging Composers for his Concerto for Alto Saxophone and Wind Ensemble. Alex's works have also been heard at the 2022 & 2018 International Trombone Festivals, as well as universities across the United States.
As a saxophonist, Alex currently serves as a the baritone saxophonist of the University of Tampa Faculty Saxophone Quartet and a substitute member of the Florida Wind Band. Previously, he has been a member of the saxophone sections in the Wind Ensembles at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, University of Redlands, and the University of Tampa, as well as various mixed-chamber ensembles. Most notably, Alex was selected to perform with the 2015 Florida Intercollegiate Band at the FMEA conference under the baton of Dr. Kevin Sedatole. Alex holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Composition from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Master of Music degree in Composition from the University of Redlands, and Bachelor of the Arts degree in Music from The University of Tampa.
