Amira Unplugged is an activist and genre-bending artist who focuses on Southern rock-soul, hip-hop, pop. Her upbringing as a (d)eaf African American Muslim woman in the South caused her to aspire to make music that unifies. Her education in public policy and criminal Justice and her hands on work in each field informs her mission to bridge gaps of understanding which she believes cause many of our most pervasive issues. By crossing genre lines with universal themes of triumph, darkness, and hope, Amira aims to bring together vastly different people who typically may not listen to the same music. Her hearing impairment also informs a great deal of her music, causing her to add unique textural elements to her original work. Her tagline “writing the soundtrack to your life“ emphasizes that each piece is created to serve as the backing track of the listener’s most important moments- she views life as a series of short films that need to be scored.
