Biography

Flor Lizbeth Cruz Longoria

Flor Lizbeth Cruz Longoria holds dual Bachelors of Music in Education and Performance (summa cum laude) from Texas A&M University- Kingsville's School of Music and a Master of Arts in Music Performance from the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory. Additionally, they studied Nonprofit Management and Innovation at the Henry W. Bloch School of Management at UMKC.

While at TAMUK, Lizbeth performed in audience-interactive performances in the Kingsville community and in the fall of 2012 alongside Associate Professor of Flute Dr. Elizabeth Janzen, Lizbeth programmed what would become the TAMUK Flute Day and served as Artist Liaison for the event for three years. They recently completed an appointment as Adjunct Flute Professor at this Hispanic-serving institution.

Lizbeth’s convention presentations include TMEA, MMEA, NFA, Kansas Flute Society, Electronic Music Midwest, the International Higher Education Teaching and Learning Association, and the College Music Society. They currently serve as an Ambassador for Notes for Growth Foundation, and they are a member of New Music USA’s Program Council and the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee for Sigma Alpha Iota International Fraternity.

Lizbeth was the winner of the 2015 TAMUK Orchestral Concerto Competition. That same year, they were selected to perform as first flute in the National Flute Association’s Collegiate Flute Choir where they performed alongside Project Trio. In 2016, they were selected to perform in the NFA convention as part of the TAMUK Flute Choir and interned for the convention for two years. They serve on the NFA Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Accessibility Committee and were selected to be mentors on the 2023 Young Artist Mentorship Program.

As the flutist for Valledo Winds Woodwind Quintet, Lizbeth participated in the Imani Winds Chamber Music Festival as an Emerging Artist. They were selected as a counselor with teaching and performing assistantships at the New York Summer Music Festival and Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp.

Lizbeth performed their Carnegie Hall debut in 2021 with Notes for Growth’s Tremün: Celebrating Indigenous Roots recital, which was selected as NYC Arts #1 Pick of the Week. Tremün brought together music from and inspired by indigenous peoples around the world including Perú, México, Jamaica, and Chile, and premiered nine new works by Chilean composers and Mapuche poets in celebration.

In 2019, Lizbeth founded Colectiva Huēhuecoyōtl, a collective of artists that offers performances to events sponsored by non- profit organizations catering marginalized communities. As a separate outreach concert series, the proceeds generated are donated to said organizations.

In 2022, they were named an IMPACTO Changemaker for outstanding advocacy for the Latinx community by Revolución Educativa. In 2023, they facilitated almost $1M in scholarship support for the senior class of Harmony Project KC. Lizbeth’s principal teachers include Dr. Cristina Ballatori, Dr. Elizabeth Janzen, Dr. Mary Posses, and Dr. David O. Renz. They have performed under the batons of Steven Reineke and Joseph Silverstein, and in masterclasses for In Sterio, Imani Winds, Leone Buyse, Zara Lawler, Susan Hayes, Rita Linard, Krista Jobson, Amy Porter, Linda Chesis, Bonnie Kim, Sato Moughalian, Demarre McGill, Kimberly Clark, and David Wallace.

With over a decade of experience in creating, implementing, and managing summer music festivals and concert series that exalt the contributions of purposefully excluded communities, Lizbeth is a Nonprofit Management Consultant for PGM start-up organizations. Their contributions include Yoga con Amor KC and the Puerto Rico Center for Collaborative Piano, to name a few.
