Praised for his "robust, everclear" and "outstanding" singing (Theatre Eddy's SF and SF Chronicle), Puerto Rican baritone Joeavian Rivera recently joined the prestigious Merola Opera Program this summer, where he was featured as Dottore Malatesta in select scenes from Act II of Donizetti's Don Pasquale, Figaro in Rossini's Il barbiere di Siviglia, and performed selections in the program's summer recital themed "A Grand Night for Singing: An American Songfest."

During the 2024-2025 season, Mr. Rivera was named a winner of the Houston District in the Metropolitan Opera Eric & Dominique Laffont Competition, was a recipient of the Bonnie Cummins Fielder Grant for Career Advancement hosted by Music Club Austin, and was named a semi-finalist in both the San Antonio Tuesday Musical Club Young Artists Voice Competition and the International Houston Saengerbund Awards. He obtained his Master of Music degree (2023) from the University of Houston Moores School of Music. During his three seasons with the Moores Opera Center, Mr. Rivera was featured in roles such as Baron Zeta in The Merry Widow, Guglielmo in Così fan tutte, Fred Beenstock in a workshop of Tom Cipullo's Hobson's Choice, maestro in Ainadamar, Krušina in The Bartered Bride, Achilla in Giuliio Cesare, and Carl-Magnus in Sondheim's A Little Night Music. He received his Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance (2020) from the University of North Florida and is currently based in Houston, TX.
