Sheldon Frazier serves as a graduate teaching assistant and doctoral student in wind conducting at Northwestern University. In this role, he assists with conducting and administrating the university’s concert bands, athletic bands, and conducting courses.
Frazier previously served as the Director of Bands at North Cobb High School in Kennesaw, Georgia where he led a program of over 300 students in four concert bands, jazz band, chamber ensembles, three winterguards, and competitive marching band.
During his time at North Cobb, the concert bands received consistent superior ratings at the Georgia Music Educators Association Large Group Performance Evaluation and the marching band consistently scored in the top percentage at regional competitions. During his tenure, the North Cobb Wind Symphony was a featured performing group at the University of Georgia’s January Music Festival, the GMEA State Conference, and the Music For All Southeastern Regional Concert Band Festival. Prior to North Cobb, Mr. Frazier taught at McEachern High School in Powder Springs, GA, and Plymouth-Canton Educational Park in Canton, MI.
Mr. Frazier earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from Western Carolina University and a Master of Music degree in Music Education from The University of Florida.
Mr. Frazier is active as an adjudicator, clinician, and student leadership consultant. In 2019, Mr. Frazier was one of 10 national educators awarded the Country Music Association Foundation’s “Music Teachers of Excellence” Award. He was also selected as one of 12 conducting fellows for the Reynolds Conducting Institute in Chicago, Illinois and was a conducting fellow for the United States Air Force Band in 2023. He has been selected as a STAR teacher and has received the National Band Association Citation of Excellence award twice. He holds memberships in the National Association for Music Education and Minority Band Directors Association.
