Elizabeth Frey, American mezzo-soprano, is known for her "warm, shimmering voice, and engaging stage presence," as lauded by Cleveland Classical. She has been in demand on opera and concert stages across the US, and the versatility of the mezzo voice type is evidenced by her colorful resume, which demonstrates a diverse range of characters, and operatic styles.
Recent operatic seasons have included the title role in Bizet's Carmen, as well as performances of Suzuki in Madama Butterfly, Dorabella in Mozart’s Così fan tutte, and Romeo in Bellini’s I Capleti e i Montecchi.
In March of this year, she performed the role of Ruth in the Chicago Gilbert and Sullivan Opera Company's production of The Pirates of Penzance. Other role highlights include Dido in Dido and Aeneas, Sesto in La clemenza di Tito, Hansel in Hänsel und Gretel, Ruggiero in Alcina, Arsamene in Serse, Cherubino in Le nozze di Figaro, Dryad in Ariadne auf Naxos, and Madame de la Haltiere in Massenet's Cendrillon.
She has performed with renowed companies such as Lyric Opera of Chicago, Dayton Opera, Des Moines Metro Opera, The Cleveland Opera, Cleveland Opera Theater, Lorain Opera Theatre, the Maryland Opera Society, Opera Western Reserve, and Utah Festival Opera.
Recent concert highlights include soloist in the Masterworks series with the Dayton Philharmonic, performing works of Beethoven, Bach and Berlioz, soloist in Messiah with Dayton Philarmonic and with the Bluffton Orchestra, soloist in Verdi's Requiem with The American Festival Chorus, and a soloist in Vivaldi's Gloria, Mozart's Great Mass in C Minor, and Haydn's Theresienmesse with The West Shore Civic Chorale.
A native of California, Elizabeth Frey completed her undergraduate studies at the University of California Davis, and her Master of Music and post-Master's certificate at the Cleveland Institute of Music. Elizabeth continued her training with the young artist residencies of Des Moines Metro Opera, Dayton Opera, and Utah Festival Opera.
