Gabriel Walker

Baritone Gabriel Walker is a native of Houston, TX. This season he looks forward to performing as Emilio in Nino Rota's rarely performed Il cappello di paglia di Firenze in his debut with the TCU Opera Studio. This winter he will be seen in recital with pianist, Daria Kiseleva, performing Schubert's Dichterliebe. Gabriel debuts with St. Stephen's Presbyterian Church's Holiday series in Menotti's timeless work, Amahl and the Night Visitors singing as King Balthazar. The 2019-2020 season featured several appearances with the Bach Society of Houston, and a recital, Beginnings, and Ends: Songs and Arias about Life, Death, and Love, featuring the works of Black composers from the 20th century to the present day, which was unfortunately canceled due to COVID-19. The 2018-2019 season featured Gabriel as bass soloist in Bach’s St. Matthew Passion with the Calyx ensemble. Gabriel was last seen in Northwestern Opera Theatre’s Fall triple bill as Bartley in Riders to the Sea, Keeper of the Madhouse in The Rake’s Progress, and as Masetto in Don Giovanni. He joined the Chautauqua Opera Music Festival as a Young Artist and was seen in concert with Craig Rutenberg. He was also seen with the Minnesota Orchestra in Osvaldo Golijov’s La Pasión según San Marcos with Border CrosSing. The 2015-2016 season saw Mr. Walker in roles such as L’imperial Commissario in Madama Butterfly and Il Notaio in Gianni Schicchi, both productions with the Fargo-Moorhead Opera. He’s also been seen in productions of Le Nozze di Figaro, Il Barbiere di Siviglia, The Merry Widow, La fille du Régiment, and The Merry Wives of Windsor with FMO. Gabriel joined the Houston Grand Opera Chorus and was seen in their 2017 production of Götterdämmerung. He was recognized as a Schubert Fellow at SongFest at the Colburn School. Gabriel holds a Master’s Degree from Northwestern University and a bachelor’s degree in Vocal Performance from Concordia College. A humanitarian, Gabriel looks forward to the premiere of his long-awaited podcast, "Ordinary Humans Living Extraordinary Lives". This podcast's mission is to explore the lives of everyday people who shape and nourish the world we live in, in exceptional ways and bring light into the lives of humans around them. Gabriel's roots growing up in the church have shaped who he has become. He's a lover of people, an advocate of mental well-being, and a lover of nature. In his free time he enjoys listening to podcasts, cooking, and learning new languages, and binging almost anything on Netflix.
