Grace Ellen Thompson enjoys an eclectic career as a soloist and ensemble performer. This summer, Grace was engaged as an apprentice artist for Berkshire Choral International’s Barcelona program, where she performed the soprano duet in Mendelssohn’s Lobgesang at the world-famous Palau de la Música Catalana under the direction of Grant Gershon.
Based in Chicago, Grace is currently pursuing her Post-master’s Certificate in Voice Performance from DePaul University, where she studies with Dr. Linda Di Fiore. She previously earned her Bachelor of Arts in Voice Performance from Ohio Wesleyan University and her Master of Music in Voice Performance & Literature from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. At University of Illinois, Grace appeared as Musetta in Puccini’s La Bohème, and in scenes from Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette (Juliette), Bizet's Carmen (Frasquita), and Prokofiev's War and Peace (Natasha). As a member of the University of Illinois Chamber Singers under the direction of Dr. Andrew Megill, she performed numerous major works, such as Britten’s War Requiem and Bach’s Weihnachts-Oratorium, and was featured as a soloist for Bach’s Jesu, Meine Freude, Respighi’s Lauda per la Natività del Signore, Beethoven’s Mass in C Major, and Handel’s Messiah. Other recent engagements include participation in the Seraphic Fire Professional Choral Institute at the Aspen Music Festival and performing the role of Pamina in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte at Bay View Music Festival, where she was also a featured member of the festival’s American Spirituals Intensive led by Dr. Everett McCorvey. Additionally, Grace is a proud founding member of Dr. Anthony Trecek-King’s Unitus Ensemble.
