Biography

Ian Pathak

Ian Pathak, an Indian/American tenor and a native to the Washington D.C. Metropolitan area. This February, Ian will make his Toledo Opera debut, performing the role of Bogdanovitch in The Merry Widow at the Historic Valentine Theatre. This year, Ian made his University of Michigan Opera Theatre mainstage role debut as the Schoolmaster/Mosquito in Leoš Janáček’s opera, The Cunning Little Vixen, directed by Tara Faircloth and Conducted by Kirk Severtson. In December 2022 Ian performed at Detroit Opera n the chorus of Aida in Concert alongside renowned singers Cristine Goerke and Angel Blue. To round out the 2022-2023 season, Ian will be attending the Lehrer Vocal Institute at the Music Academy of The West as a studio artist. 

 

This past Summer, Ian attended the nine week Opera Theatre and Vocal Arts Program at the Aspen Music Festival. Mainstage performances included Verdi’s Falstaff, directed by Paula Suozzi and conducted by Patrick Summers, and Mozart’s Don Giovanni, directed by Chia Patiño and conducted by Jane Glover. Ian also performed in two opera scenes including the role of Nadir in Bizet’s opera, Les Pecheurs des Perles and as Lurcanio in Handel’s Ariodante.

 

His awards and honors include: 1st place in the National Society of Arts and Letters (D. C. Chapter), 2nd Place in the Southern Illinois Young Artist competition, a Directors Award in the James Tolland Vocal Arts Competition, and Finalist Awards in the Undergraduate Schmidt Vocal Competition, American Pops NextGen National Competition, and the Classical Singer Competition.
