Biography

Isabel Acosta

Isabel Acosta, a mezzo-soprano graduate of the Conservatory of the National University of Colombia, currently works as a resident chorister (mezzo-soprano) with the National Choir of Colombia and continues to refine her vocal technique under the guidance of maestro Camila Toro.

She has performed notable roles such as Mrs. Noye in Noye’s Fludde by Benjamin Britten (2017), Zweite Dame in Die Zauberflöte by W. A. Mozart (2023), and Dido in Dido and Aeneas by Henry Purcell (2024). Her vocal versatility has allowed her to explore a wide-ranging repertoire, from early music to contemporary works, including composers such as Händel, Mozart, Rossini, Humperdinck, Barber, Fernando Obradors, Osvaldo Lacerda, Schubert, Brahms, Poulenc, and Guastavino.

As an artist, Isabel is distinguished by her constant pursuit of improvement and a holistic approach to artistic expression. She has participated in masterclasses and received feedback from renowned singers and artistic coaches such as Marissa Martins, Laura Reyes, Cynthia Sanner, Johannes Reichert, Santos Ariño, Valeriano Lanchas, Yamile Lanchas, Juanita Lascarro, Alejandro Roca, Julieth Lozano, María José Montiel, and Sara Catarine.

In 2024, she was invited by the Bank of the Republic of Colombia to a private audition before Melissa Wegner, Director of the Young Artist Program at the Metropolitan Opera in New York. During the audition, she was praised for her unique vocal timbre with attractive and distinctive colors, as well as her strong technique, stage presence, and expressive interpretation. That same year, the University of the Arts in Berlin (Universität der Künste Berlin – UdK) certified that Isabel possesses all the competencies required to begin a professional career as an opera singer.

Also in 2024, she was a semifinalist in the Linus Lerner International Vocal Competition, organized by the Southern Arizona Symphony Orchestra.

Isabel is currently preparing to participate in prestigious vocal competitions in Europe as she continues to expand her international career. With dedication, discipline, talent, and artistic sensitivity, Isabel Acosta is emerging as one of the promising voices in the world of opera.
