Marvic Baldacchino is a Maltese soprano and graduate of the Conservatorio di Milano “Giuseppe Verdi.” She began her vocal studies with Miriam Cauchi at the Malta School of Music and spent her formative years as a chorister at St John’s Co-Cathedral in Valletta. She read Music at the University of Malta before completing postgraduate studies in Milan, where she obtained a Master of Music in Vocal Performance and a Postgraduate Diploma in Artistic Vocology, both awarded with distinction.
Marvic made her operatic debut as Ines in Verdi’s Il Trovatore at Teatru Astra in Gozo and has since appeared as Rosina (Il Barbiere di Siviglia), Elle (La Voix Humaine) and performed in scenes, Pamina (Die Zauberflöte), La Contessa d’Almaviva (Le Nozze di Figaro), Mimì (La Bohème), Marzelline (Fidelio) and the Marschallin (Der Rosenkavalier). While at the conservatoire she covered the role of Adina (L’Elisir d’Amore). Her repertoire also includes Giulietta (I Capuleti e i Montecchi), Lauretta (Gianni Schicchi) and Anna (Le Villi).
A versatile performer, Marvic is at home singing opera, oratorio, contemporary music, lied and chamber repertoire. She has performed extensively in Malta and abroad, including in Belgium, Italy, Greece, France and the United Kingdom.
Concert highlights include Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony at the Mediterranean Conference Centre, Joseph Calleja’s Winter Concert at the Manoel Theatre with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of David Chan, the Opera is Gozo Festival opening concert and most recently, a Gala Concert at the Teatro Comunale in Todi (Umbria). She has also appeared in Bernstein on Broadway with American Voices, toured as guest artist with the Filarmonica Nissena Siciliana and performed at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation and the Megaron Concert Hall in Athens.
A keen recitalist, she has appeared at the Victoria International Arts Festival, Dar Malta in Brussels and the Maltese Embassy in Rome. She is particularly proud of Sole e Amore, a recital of Italian song for the Jesuits’ Church Foundation, and has performed complete chamber works by Bernstein, Mendelssohn, Ravel, Frank Martin, Charles Camilleri and Joseph Vella.
As an oratorio soloist, her repertoire includes Rossini’s Stabat Mater, Gounod’s Messe Solennelle, Alessandro Scarlatti’s Christmas Cantata and Stabat Mater, Poulenc’s Gloria and Rutter’s Requiem. She regularly performed with the Collegium Musicum Choir as the soprano soloist for Mozart's Coronation Mass and Fauré’s Requiem under the direction of Dion Buhagiar.
Other projects include A Beginner’s Guide to Opera, part of the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra’s outreach programme introducing children to the world of opera.
In the upcoming season, Marvic looks forward to performing both G.B Pergolesi and G.G Brunetti’s Stabat Mater, a Liederabend and further concert engagements across Europe, among other projects.
