Matthew Peralta is a first-year double bass Fellow at the New World Symphony. His recent orchestral concerts involve performing with the Seattle Symphony, the Kansas-City Symphony and the Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra as a diversity fellow. Mr. Peralta received an Honorable Mention in the 2022 Sphinx SOPA Excerpt Competition as well as Most Outstanding Instrumentalist. When he was in his senior year of high school, Matthew was accepted into the New York Youth Symphony where he had his first of many Carnegie Hall performances. Matt moved on to study under the tutelage of Professor Timothy Cobb at Purchase College. In his senior year, Matt participated in the Double Stop Foundation competition where he became a 2018 Ambassador for the Foundation. In addition to gaining the Ambassador title, Matt brought home the prize of a Jacob Schmidbauer ¾ double bass made in the late 1800’s. After his final year at Purchase, Matt went on to receive his Masters degree at the Yale School of Music where he studied with Professor Donald Palma. Matthew has attended festivals such as Roundtop and the International Summer Academy in Vienna, where he studied with prestigious teachers such as James VanDemark, Josef Niederhammer, and Jiri Hudec. Matt currently plays on a 2000 Kolstein Carcassi model double bass.
