An award-winning harpist, Rachel Miller is celebrated for her dynamic qualities as a soloist, active orchestral musician, and enthusiastic collaborator. She is principal harpist of Kalamazoo Symphony and Southwest Michigan Symphony, and is engaged regularly by a wide variety of orchestras including Cincinnati, Detroit and Columbus Symphonies. With experience across genres and disciplines, Rachel often shares the stage with names like Josh Groban & Evanescense. An energetic educator, Rachel enjoys sharing the harp with her students in her private teaching studio. Rachel Miller is Principal Harpist for Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra and Southwest Michigan Symphony Orchestra. In 2017, Rachel won the position of Substitute Principal Harp for Columbus Symphony Orchestra. She was Principal for the Akron Symphony Orchestra for their 2016-2017 season, and principal for Binghamton Philharmonic from 2015-2018. Rachel is engaged regularly by orchestras across the Midwest, including the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. She attended the Aspen Music Festival in 2014 and was principal harpist for the Lancaster Festival in 2014 and 2016. ​ Rachel has been a prize winner at the Lyon & Healy Awards (2015), Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music Harp Concerto Competition (2014), American Harp Society’s National Competition Advanced Division (2011), and American Harp Society’s Anne Adams Awards (2010). In fall 2019, Rachel was featured as concerto soloist alongside Amanda Blaikie (2nd flute, Detroit Symphony Orchestra), performing Mozart’s Concerto for Flute and Harp with the Detroit Symphony Youth Orchestra. Rachel’s past solo appearances include Alwyn’s Lyra Angelica with Southwest Michigan Symphony Orchestra (2017), Ravel’s Introduction and Allegro with members of the Lancaster Festival Orchestra (2016) and Caplet’s Conte Fantastique with Binghamton Philharmonic (2015). Equally as comfortable in the pop world, Rachel has shared the stage with Evanescence, Josh Groban, Sarah McLachlan, Amy Grant, Celtic Woman, Christopher Cross, and Music City Hit-Makers (Nashville’s chart-topping songwriters). Rachel has performed in a plethora of unique spaces and iconic venues such as Carnegie Hall and the historic Drake Hotel in Chicago, IL. Rachel is a vibrant member of the harp duo, Beyond Pluck, alongside Nashville harpist Paula Bressman. ​ A dedicated educator, Rachel maintains a private teaching studio in Cincinnati, OH, and has enjoyed working with students of all ages at Connecticut Valley Harp Intensive. ​ Rachel began her harp studies with Susan Knapp Thomas at the age of 8. Her primary teachers include Patricia Masri-Fletcher, Arcola Clark, Kathleen Bride, and Gillian Benet Sella. She received her Bachelor of Music at Michigan State University, and Master of Music and Artist Diploma at University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music.
