A multi-faceted pianist hailing from North Carolina, Ryan Jung is an passionate soloist and chamber musician of repertoire spanning four centuries across America and Europe. Especially devoted to contemporary music, he has collaborated with established composers such as Tyshawn Sorey, Nico Muhly, Thomas Ades, Wolfgang Rihm, Salvatore Sciarrino, Eric Tanguy, Yan Maresz, and Betsy Jolas. He has also worked with notable artists such as Richard Goode, members of Sō Percussion and Emerson String Quartet, Shai Wosner, Alessio Bax, and Stephen Hough among many others. In 2022, Jung won the Third prize and Special Contemporary Prize at the Wadsworth International Piano Competition in Georgia and was able to perform with the Aeolus String Quartet. He has performed at the world’s most prestigious festivals, including the Lucerne Festival in Switzerland, Music Academy in Santa Barbara, Prussia Cove in the UK, the Aspen Music Festival, among many others. Jung made his Lincoln Center solo debut last fall in Alice Tully Hall, performing Messaien’s Sept Haikai with Jeffrey Milarsky.
Mr. Jung currently studies at the CUNY Graduate Center in New York, with Jeremy Denk and Conor Hanick. He completed his Masters degree from The Juilliard School in 2022 and studied with Professors Hung Kuan Chen and Jerome Lowenthal. He also obtained his Bachelor of Music from the New England Conservatory studying with Hae-sun Paik. Outside of school, he devotes his free time teaching students, running, and playing competitive chess. He currently lives in New York City.
