Biography

Justin E. Bell

Tenor Justin E. Bell, passionate about bringing the human experience to life through music, is an emerging artist on both operatic and concert stages. He will next be seen as Emmett Till in Emmett Till: An Opera in Three Acts (by Charles Lloyd, Jr.) in a joint production between Opera Louisiane and Southern University. This season, he made his Carnegie Hall debut as the tenor soloist in Dan Forrest's Requiem for the Living, performing alongside the National Masterwork Chorus and Orchestra. In the summer, Bell returned to Carnegie Hall’s National Concerts Series as the tenor soloist in Haydn’s Paukenmesse (Mass in the Time of War). Additional highlights for the summer of 2025 included performing as Don Curzio/Basilio in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro, covering Voice from the Forge in Manuel de Falla’s La Vida Breve, and joining the ensemble for the workshop of Missy Mazzoli’s Lincoln in the Bardo at the Chautauqua Opera Conservatory. Bell is energized by the collaborative process, with recent exciting projects including Damien Sneed’s chamber opera The Tongue and the Lash at Town Hall, Handel: Made in America at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Sojourner with The Dessoff Choirs, and in recital at the Manhattan School of Music. A proud alumnus of the Shared Voices Cohort within The Denyce Graves Foundation, Bell was featured in concert at The Smithsonian Museum of African American History and Culture. He has had the privilege of training at the Castleton Music Festival and the Aspen Music Festival and School; Bell earned his Master of Music degree from the Manhattan School of Music and holds degrees from The University of Southern Mississippi.
