Job Summary
Reporting to the Chair of the Fred and Dinah Gretsch School of Music, the Assistant Professor of Music/Director of Opera is an academic (10 month) tenure-track appointment and will be expected to 1) teach beginning and advanced sections of Opera Theater resulting in suitable public performances; 2) teach other related courses (such as applied voice, voice class for non-majors, foreign language diction); 3) actively recruit potential music majors; 4) attend faculty meetings for the School of Music and the Voice Area; 5) serve on jury and recital hearing panels; 6) manage the allocated budget, inventory, and other resources for Georgia Southern Opera and 7) fulfill other teaching duties as assigned by the Chair. The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Required Qualifications
Earned terminal degree in music performance, opera, or a closely related field with at least 18 graduate semester hours in music performance or opera, by August 1, 2025.
Willingness to engage with institutional student success initiatives.
Commitment to engaging with best practice initiatives in instruction and pedagogy, mentoring, and curriculum design and development.
Demonstrated commitment to advancing a strong and growing research and scholarship agenda and the production of research/creative activities as appropriate to the discipline.
Preferred Qualifications
Evidence of successful collegiate teaching experience
Evidence of opera production experience
Strong technical and musical skills as a performer
Evidence of successful voice teaching in a variety of styles
Proposed Salary
Commensurate with experience.
This is an exempt position paid on a monthly basis.
