Program Information:
Portland Opera To Go, Portland Opera’s flagship education and outreach program is seeking a collaborative pianist for its Fall 2025 adaptation of Donizetti’s The Elixir of Love.
This charming, 50-minute adaptation by Kristine McIntyre resets The Elixir of Love in the U.S. Midwest in the 1930s. Nemorino is a farmhand on Adina’s farm and hopelessly in love with her. His world is upended win the dashing pilot, Belcore, crash lands in Adina’s yard and begins to woo her. Enter the travelling salesman Dr. Dulcamara with is positively guaranteed Elixir of Love to save the day!
Portland Opera To Go (POGO) tours throughout Oregon and SW Washington with 50-minute youth operas that are designed to be lively, engaging, and inspiring for school-age and family audiences. In addition to performing, POGO artists engage students in classroom activities and are required to assist with the set up and strike of the touring set. POGO performs up to two times a day.

We are hiring a collaborative pianist for this project. This person will also ensure the musical integrity of the piece while touring. This position will also be called upon to play concerts with Portland Opera To Go singers. This adaptation of The Elixir of Love is scored for four singers (Adina, Nemorino, Belcore and Dulcamara.)

Compensation: Payment is provided
Salary: $875 per week
Housing allowance of up to $2000 to defray the cost of housing (upon presentation of receipts)
Travel stipend of $500 for travel to and from Portland, Oregon (upon presentation of receipts)
Meal reimbursement of $80 when the tour is 150 miles from the Portland Metro Area.
