Job Description

The Washington National Opera (WNO) Costume Department is hiring for multiple positions with varying contract lengths for the 2022-2023 season.

Stitcher

Assist with the construction, fitting, alteration, and refurbishment of costumes for all WNO productions, galas, concerts, and events. Contribute to the efficient and professional execution of work performed in the Costume Workroom.
First Hand

Assist with the pattern making, construction, fitting, alteration, and refurbishment of costumes for all WNO productions, galas, concerts, and events. Contribute to the efficient and professional execution of work performed in the Costume Workroom.
Draper

Pattern, construct, fit, alter, and refurbish costumes for all WNO productions, galas, concerts, and events. Monitor the efficient and professional execution of work performed in the Costume Workroom.
Education/Experience

Post-secondary education in or basic knowledge of costume design, costume history, patternmaking, stitching and tailoring techniques.
Professional experience in construction and tailoring of men’s and women’s clothing.
Professional experience in costume draping and pattern making (Draper)
Experience with supervising employees, scheduling, and time management. (Draper and First Hand)
