Description: Reporting to the Associate Dean of Orchestral Studies, this highly student-facing position manages the booking of Juilliard’s two orchestral studios. Focusing on internal communication, this position ensures department-wide scheduling and information is up to date across multiple platforms (ArtsVision, ASIMUT, MyJuilliard, etc.). This position manages orchestra personnel for select ensembles including Lab Orchestra and Juilliard Chamber Orchestra, and coordinates auxiliary instrument loans and lessons. The position spearheads alumni projects and maintains the sub list of alumni musicians, engaging as required by repertoire demands. This is a 52 week/year position.

Responsibilities:

Operations

Oversee booking of two orchestral studios (Rooms 309 and 543)
Process reservation inquiries from all divisions, departments, offices, and students
Ensure department-wide scheduling is up to date across multiple platforms (i.e. ArtsVision, ASIMUT, MyJuilliard, etc.)
Spearhead data management and information system projects
Manage scheduling and logistics for Orchestral Studies department meetings
Working closely with both the Senior Director of Performance Operations and External Venue Relations and Production Manager, assist with the scheduling and supervision of the work-study setup crew
Work with Production Manager to ensure daily operations of orchestral studios run smoothly
Coordinate auxiliary instrument loans and lessons, liaising with auxiliary instrument faculty
Serve as stage manager in the absence of Production Manager

Manage special projects (extra performances, recording sessions, interdisciplinary productions, and Commencement activities) as assigned

Personnel

Working closely with the Director of Orchestra Personnel, manage select ensembles including Juilliard Chamber Orchestra, acting as a liaison between conductors, students, Ensemble Operations, Orchestra Library, Public Affairs, Box Office, Recording, and other departments
Serve as lead personnel manager for Lab Orchestra
Build rosters on a weekly basis
Ensure all students have completed necessary paperwork to be paid through work-study
Approve biweekly timesheets; maintain and track budget
Working closely with the Assistant Director of Artistic and Curricular Planning, manage aspects of the audition training program, including student communication and collection/distribution of audition feedback
Spearhead alumni projects including tracking alumni success and developing alumni reports
Maintain database of, hire, and coordinate alumni musicians as required by repertoire demands; oversee the budget for extra players

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree
Ensemble Management Experience
Background in music performance, performing arts education, or artistic administration
Knowledge of orchestral repertoire and new music
Knowledge of woodwind, brass, percussion, and keyboard instruments, and electronic equipment
Self-motivated, with excellent interpersonal skills and communication, both written and oral
Strong computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook
Ability to work under extreme pressure and meet strict deadlines while remaining flexible and organized

Salary: $65,000
