Description

Overview:

This full-time position offers the opportunity for a self-motivated and ambitious individual to take ownership of managing and developing an elite roster of classical singers, directors, conductors, and composers. This role will be a primary point of contact for clients, producers/presenters, and other business stakeholders. The Vice President, Classical Voice will collaborate with the Executive Leadership of the agency to develop the overall vision, strategy, and financial goals of the Classical division. In this boutique office, all team members participate in every facet of the business, from the strategic to the routine.
Duties/Responsibilities:

Day-to-day representation of opera professionals including contract negotiations, career development, and talent scouting.
Development of a thorough career strategy for classical clients.
Maintenance of strong relationships with clients, casting professionals, and administrators.
Identification, curation, development, and maintenance with potential clients, casting professionals, administrators, or other potential stakeholders.
Identification, curation, and negotiation of contract opportunities for our clients.
Extensive interpersonal interaction via telephone and e-mail, applying keen critical thinking skills to field questions and navigate relationships with clients and performing arts organizations in the U.S. and abroad in a professional, client services-oriented manner consistent with the company’s values and brand reputation.
Oversight of the development, creation, editing, and/or proofreading artist marketing materials including biographies and resumes, with an eye for quality branding of the artist consistent with the company’s style and the artist’s professional identity. This includes developing and advising on brand adherence through all elements of the artist’s publicity tools.
Collaborating on and preparing suggestions for presenters/producers that thoughtfully match the needs of the producer with qualified and available talent from our roster.
Intermediate knowledge of contract law, and contracting practices in the arts including familiarity with intellectual property law, royalty/residual structures, and employment practices.
Management of Agents, Associates, and Artist Services Interns.

Compensation Details:

Full-Time. Salary $60-75k commensurate with experience, plus bonuses based on company performance. Periodic evening and weekend hours required as well as possible out-of-town travel. Hybrid Work Environment:

UIA's offices are in midtown Manhattan, and we are presently working in the office three days per week, and from home two days per week.

Requirements

Must not be currently working as a professional performer or aspiring performer, and must not have been a professional performer in the last five years.
Required Qualifications/Characteristics:

A natural sales and booking professional who is accustomed to tracking trends that are unique to the classical music and performing arts industries.
Advanced fluency in the standard operatic, symphonic, and oratorio repertoire with an understanding of how to cast operatic voices and identify creative team members for that repertoire.
3-5 years of experience in opera artist representation or artistic administration.
A well-developed network of opera producers and casting professionals.
Comfortable in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment.
Goal oriented. Plans, measures expectations, and justifies outcomes.
Refined interpersonal skills with the ability to handle sensitive and confidential situations with professionalism, diplomacy, tact, and poise.
A collaborative attitude with the ability to interact collegially with individuals at all levels of the organization.
Highly-developed business writing technique, with a keen editorial eye, and high-level mastery of grammar and spelling.
Impeccable organizational skills and attention to detail with the ability to manage rapidly shifting priorities on multiple projects simultaneously.
Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with a demonstrated ability to efficiently juggle a multitude of competing tasks, deadlines, demands, and priorities while maintaining a cool external demeanor.
A strong interest and knowledge in the performing arts, including classical music, opera, and concert performances.
The ability to remain calm, objective, professional, and unemotional in high-stress situations.
Creativity and decision making skills.
Willing to work nights and weekends.
High level of integrity. Has and develops strong and mutually trustworthy relationships.
Available for professional travel (domestic and international).
Intermediate proficiency in the entire Microsoft Office Suite.
Basic proficiency in Adobe Acrobat and Photoshop.
Basic proficiency in online file sharing applications including Dropbox and Google Drive.

Preferred Qualifications:

Leadership/management experience.
Track record for entrepreneurial success.
Foreign language proficiency, especially German, Italian, and French.
Knowledge of international culture standards and practices in professional settings.
