Position Summary:
A-State’s Department of Music invites applications for a Temporary 9-month position at the Instructor level for Wind Bands beginning in August 2023. This is a full-time non-tenure track teaching position in Music. The position carries a 15 hour load per semester
The Department of Music educates and elevates our students and community through music, cultivating personal connections and encouraging growth towards individual goals. The courses offered in the department include general education and service courses, and courses that support the following programs: Bachelor of Music Education, Bachelor of Music, Bachelor of Arts in Music, Master of Music, and Master of Music Education. We also offer undergraduate minors in Music and Jazz
The A-State Bands recently celebrated their 90th year and are a visible part of campus life. The Band and Winds/Brass/Percussion programs serve approximately 220 students and the community through its three concert ensembles, multiple athletic bands, applied lessons, two jazz bands, and numerous chamber ensembles
Duties & Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be expected to effectively teach a variety of courses which may include concert ensembles, undergraduate and graduate conducting, undergraduate and graduate music education, and oth er courses as assigned. Regular teaching loads are 15 hours each semester on a 9-month contract. Coordination of field placements and teaching observations of instrumental BME students for their capstone internship will be a periodic part of this position. The successful candidate will demonstrate:

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
● Ability to work in a collaborative and team-oriented environment, especially with the Interim Director of Bands
● Ability to maintain confidentiality and high standards of ethical conduct
● Ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff
● Excellent verbal communication skills to coordinate with student leaders, and interact with prospective students and area music educators
● Excellent written communication skills to coordinate with faculty, answer inquiries, and maintain records

8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Preferred Qualifications:
● Three (3) years teaching in secondary school settings
● University teaching experience
● Experience with diverse repertoire, and under-represented composers and/or source material
Minimum Qualifications:
● An earned terminal degree in Music (conducting or music education) by August 15, 2023
● Documented successful teaching experience in conducting Wind Bands in the college setting (may include TA experience)
