In order to audition, you must be aged 18-41, able to pass the Armed Forces Entrance Physical and be otherwise qualified for service in the U.S. Navy. If you are not a U.S. citizen, you must have a valid green card and social security card with no stipulations. Current military members and some veterans may be exempt from the age requirement.
The Navy and Navy Band have strict appearance and weight standards. Accordingly, applicants must conform to weight and appearance requirements prior to enlistment.
The Navy has the most accepting tattoo policy of any military branch. Scalp, face and ear tattoos are prohibited, as are any tattoos that are offensive, racist, extremist or sexist. A single neck tattoo no larger than one inch in diameter is permitted, as long as it cannot be seen when viewing a person from the front.

U.S. Navy Band
Starting salary for a new member of the U.S. Navy Band is $76,018 - $83,470 plus 30 days paid leave annually and full benefits for members and dependents. Those selected for the U.S. Navy Band are advanced to the paygrade of E-6 (musician 1st class) following recruit training, under a contract for permanent duty with the U.S. Navy Band. Additionally, as of August 2022, new members may be eligible for student loan repayment up to $65,000.
Fleet Band
Fleet Band High school graduates accepted as a fleet musician are authorized enlistment at paygrade E-2. Applicants with two or more years of college are authorized enlistment at paygrade E-3. In addition to your base pay, you also may be authorized tax-free entitlements for food, called Basic Allowance for Subsistence (BAS), and housing, called Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH). Certain high-cost of living areas are given a Cost of Living Allowance (COLA), and overseas duty is given an Overseas Housing Allowance (OHA). Benefits can include the Post-9/11 GI Bill, tuition assistance, student loan repayment, etc. Specific benefits change frequently.
You are not required to join the Navy or the delayed entry program (DEP) before your audition. Upon completion of a successful live audition, you will be guaranteed a job in the Navy as a Navy musician following recruit training (boot camp).
