The HEMU provides its students with four skills sites with complementary identities and qualities in French-speaking Switzerland. Its presence in the cantons of Vaud, Friborg and Valais allows it to broadly diversify its collaborations and partnerships. Classical music is practiced in these three places. The Flon district in Lausanne hosts the campus dedicated to Jazz and Contemporary Music.
Its main building is located in Lausanne in the canton of Vaud. On the edge of Lavaux, a region listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site , this city has established itself as a high place of culture and education in Europe. Renowned Grandes Ecoles, such as the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne ( EPFL ), the Ecole Hôtelière de Lausanne ( EHL ) or the Ecole Cantonale d'Art de Lausanne ( ECAL ), rub shoulders with the headquarters of the International Olympic Committee ( IOC ), the Chamber Orchestra of Lausanne ( OCL ) and, nearby, the Montreux Jazz Festival , to name but a few of these institutions with international influence.
The HEMU has some 150 lesson studios, mostly equipped with Steinway pianos, and several concert halls with optimal acoustics.
