The Music Institute Kungsvägen (MIK) is a Swedish-language statutory music institute in Espoo founded in 1974. At MIK you can study many different kinds of instruments and singing in different genres.
We want to provide targeted and high-class Swedish-language teaching in music. Teaching follows a curriculum and progresses from level to level. Through a creative and positive atmosphere, we want to create the conditions for a good relationship with music.
The student has an active role in the teaching and learns to set goals and work towards them both independently and together with others. We work so that different styles of music support each other within the business. There is the possibility of many different forms of interaction such as choirs, string orchestras, brass bands, pop/rock bands, jazz bands, chamber music.
We want to give the students the skills they need for lifelong enjoyment of music, while creating the conditions for further studies for future professional musicians and music educators. MIK creates a viable cultural space with a Finnish-Swedish identity.
In addition to state and municipally subsidized study places, there is also the possibility to study on the open line, where you do not have to follow any curriculum.
The principal of the Music Institute Kungsvägen is the foundation Music Institute Kungsvägen (SMIK) . The working community consists of a staff of about 50 people and about 850 students.
