About

The musical group of the Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Heritage is made up of outstanding performers, some of whom teach at the main music faculties in the country. Many instrumental teachers have passed through the OCCH. From its creation until today, three have been its directors: the teacher Fernando Rosas (National Prize for Musical Arts 2006), Juan Pablo Izquierdo (National Prize for Musical Arts 2012) and the teacher Alejandra Urrutia. Its origin dates back to the 1950s, when teachers and amateur musicians, moved by musical passion, met to play. In those years, the students of the normal schools, where a significant number of teachers in Chile were trained during much of the 20th century, had to learn music and play an instrument.
