Matthias Young is studying viola and composition at the College-Conservatory of Music in Cincinnati. He has been playing the viola since the age of 11 and began composing shortly thereafter, and has performed in the Ohio All-State orchestra, at the Chamber Music Connection in Columbus, Ohio, and at the Rencontres Musicales Internationales des Graves in Gironde, France. In addition to viola, Matthias also currently plays violin for Quintango, an ensemble performing original arrangements of tango music. Matthias’s work Hyperion for brass quintet was a winner of the 2020 Young Composers initiative sponsored by the Ohio Music Education Association. Matthias currently studies viola with Dr. Catherine Lees and composition with Dr. Douglas Knehans.
