Christopher Alley is a violist and educator based in Bloomington, Indiana. As an active performing musician, he plays regularly with the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra and the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic. He maintains a private studio with students of all ages and skill levels, including adult beginners and young virtuosos.
A lover of chamber music, Alley has performed a wide variety of genres with equally varied arrays of ensembles across the US. He has appeared at festivals such as the Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival in Vermont and Round Top Festival Institute in Texas, where he and his colleagues recorded the seldom heard Quintet for piano and strings by Anton Webern for a feature on Performance Today. He also enjoys bringing little known pieces in the solo repertoire to the fore, having recently performed a recital of viola works by 20th century American composers.
Alley holds a bachelor’s degree from The University of Texas at Austin and a master’s degree and performer diploma from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. His principal teachers include Roger Myers and Ed Gazouleas. When not making or teaching music, he enjoys immersing himself in video games, cooking for friends, and crocheting hats for the winter.
