Nathaniel recently completed his DM (Doctor of Music) in violin performance at the Jacobs School of Music under the tutelage of professor Kevork Mardirossian where he earned the position of Associate Instructor. He currently serves as the principal second violin of the Owensboro Symphony Orchestra. Nathaniel has been a professor of Violin at the Violonissimo school in Switzerland since 2012.

Currently a professor of violin and chamber music at the Violonissimo school in Geneva, Swiss born violinist Nathaniel Shapiro has spent many years developing his craft as a versatile performer and pedagogue. He recently completed his Doctor of Music (DM) degree in violin performance at the Indiana University Jacobs School of music where he also taught as an Associate Instructor under the tutelage of Kevork Mardirossian. During his years in Bloomington Indiana, Nathaniel maintained an active performing career having recently completed a performance cycle of the ten Beethoven violin sonatas with his duo partner Sean Cavanaugh. He is also a member of the newly founded Cercis String Quartet which were selected as semi finalists at the 2023 Plowman Chamber Music Competition. Nathaniel received extensive chamber music training with renowned artists and pedagogues such as Peter Stumpf, Stephen Wyrczynski, the Pacifica Quartet and Emile Naoumoff. His dedication to chamber music and ensemble playing allowed him to share the stage with distinguished artists such as Emilio Colón, Federico Agostini, Jaime Amador, and Matteo Mela. As part of the Panacea String Quartet, Nathaniel was featured in the 100th birthday celebration of the late Juan Orrego-Salas, performing his fourth String Quartet op. 125 (2003).
A recipient of the Shirley Givens Memorial Fellowship, Nathaniel has been a guest artist in the International Chamber Orchestra of Puerto Rico where he has given masterclasses and performed as a chamber and orchestral musician.
