With over fifteen years of professional teaching experience combined with a rigorous study of the connections between the body, breath and the voice, Madeline offers her students a vast wealth of knowledge. Her teaching style helps students release unnecessary tension, improve posture, build confidence, get out of their head, increase physical awareness, work through negative beliefs surrounding the voice, and so much more. Regardless of a student’s level (she works with a range of amateur, pre-professional, semi-professional and professional students), Madeline is adept at helping singers navigate vocal challenges and guiding them along their journey to free, authentic, expressive singing.
Madeline is a former member of the Musical Theater Voice Faculty at Catholic University, the owner of Windsong Studio, her private voice studio based in Columbia, MD, and a seven-year member and former Vice President of the Maryland / DC Chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS). She is a proud alumna of the Eastman School of Music (B.M.) and the University of Maryland (M.M., D.M.A.).
For the past decade, Miskie has completely immersed herself in yoga (receiving her 200 hour certification in Vinyasa Yoga in 2017) and other somatic modalities which integrate mind / body and also those which connect body, breath and voice including: Linklater Voice Technique, pranayama (breath work), meditation, Lessac Kinesensic Movement, Laban Movement, and self-myofascial release (SMR). These techniques have had a tremendous effect on her singing and form the foundation of her teaching style.
She has given workshops & classes on yoga / movement and its application to singing at American University, Potomac Vocal Institute (PVI), The University of Maryland, The US Naval Academy, American Choral Directors’ Association (MD/DC Chapter), The National Association of Teachers of Singing (MD/DC, Arizona Chapters), Circle Yoga (DC) and Yoga Heights DC.
Many of Miskie’s former students have been accepted into undergraduate and graduate music programs for voice performance, music education, music therapy and songwriting at the following institutions:, Baldwin Wallace, Belmont, Boston Conservatory, George Mason, Morgan State University, NYU Steinhardt, Roosevelt University, San Francisco Conservatory, Shenandoah, The Crane School of Music, Temple, The University of Maryland, The Hartt School of Music, and West Virginia University. Professional / Semi-professional student performance credits include: Utah Festival Opera, The Prince George’s Philharmonic, Imagination Stage, Olney Theater Center, Next Stop Theater Company, The Washington Children’s Chorus, City Choir of Washington and WNO Children’s Chorus. Several of her former students have begun successful voice studios of their own.
Outside of music and yoga, Madeline enjoys spending time in nature; walking, hiking, running and skiing, cooking delicious food and taking care of two cats and a husky with her husband Brian.
