Biography

Gabriel Lockheimer Toso

Gabriel Lockheimer Toso is an American bass-baritone known for his commanding stage presence and rich, resonant sound. A versatile young artist, he is establishing himself as an emerging performer in both standard and contemporary operatic repertoire.

In 2027, Gabriel returns to Sarasota Opera as a Studio Artist, where he will perform the role of Rychtář in Janáček’s Jenůfa and Dick Deadeye in Gilbert and Sullivan’s H.M.S. Pinafore. In 2026, he joins Michigan Sinfonia as the bass soloist in Verdi’s Requiem. He also returns to Sarasota Opera, where he performs the Doganiere in La Bohème, Brother Ott in Susannah, and Pritschitish in The Merry Widow.

In 2025, Gabriel made his company debut with Grand Rapids Opera as Dick Deadeye in H.M.S. Pinafore. That same year, he performed Colline in Puccini’s La Bohème with SERIO Opera and Alidoro in Rossini’s La Cenerentola with Michigan State University Opera. He previously appeared with Michigan State University Opera as Sarastro in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte and Leporello in Don Giovanni.

Gabriel was an Apprentice Artist with Sarasota Opera during the 2025–26 season. His recent work has included performances and study with conductors, coaches, and directors including Victor DeRenzi, Rachelle Jonck, Mo Zhou, Cody Martin, Artyom Pak, Eve Summers, Kevin Sütterlin, Elden Little, and Louisa Jonason.

Gabriel holds a Master of Music in Vocal Performance from Michigan State University and a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from Concordia College Moorhead.
