Kanisha Kellum (she/her) is a St. Louis-based performer, music director, and teaching artist. Since graduating with her BFA in Musical Theatre at #SoutheastMissouriStateUniversity in 2020, Kanisha has been working predominantly in the St. Louis theatre district.
In 2021, Kanisha was a part-time choir director for Marian Middle School, a private all-girls catholic school. She taught the girls gospel, contemporary worship, and songs for Mass two days a week. She led the choir in chapel and Mass services at school on a weekly basis.
Kanisha was a music director for The Youth Theatre at the St. Louis Jewish Community Center for two shows (Willy Wonka Jr., Peter Pan Jr.) She made learning tracks, and taught music to ages 5-14 with a 60 person cast.
This was her first big job after graduation. In 2022, Kanisha began working at #STAGESStLouis as a teaching artist in their academy and a music director in their outreach program. She taught musical theatre and acting classes for grades 3rd-12th, and has MD'd many musicals in the outreach program. Past shows she has MD'd in the outreach program include: Beauty and the Beast Jr., The Wiz Jr., Newsies Jr., Annie Jr., and she is currently doing Footloose: Youth Edition. Kanisha also MD'd a summer production for the academy, The Lightning Thief, and the academy's fall production Big: the Musical TYA.
