Biography

kweisi gharreau

A native of the infamous south-side of Chicago, kweisi gharreau is living proof how writing can change one’s life..  kweisi is a poet, self-published author and activist. His literature was originally inspired by the murder of his younger brother, James L. Ford, 17. He wrote, met and came to forgive his brother's killer. His self-published book of poetry entitled "n'nocent RAGE" gained critical acclaim. Also, kweisi founded The Innocent Rage Foundation (‘96-’06) to help educate, inspire and inform youth about the importance of using art to overcome adversity. kweisi often makes appearances at various academic institutions across the country.

kweisi studied in a Literary Masters' Program at Oxford Brookes University. While there, he performed and hosted spoken-word sets throughout Oxford and Edinburgh, Scotland. kweisi was deemed Chicago's premier poet by the First Lady of Chicago, Mrs. Maggie Daley.  He was the spoken word artist award recipient in 2000 and was voted best poet in Chicago by the readers of Spotlight Entertainment magazine. He penned the unofficial Chicago Bulls street anthem "the bullz" in 1997 becoming the #1 song on 107.5FM WGCI radio station.

kweisi has also worked as an on-camera personality.  He has worked movie premieres, red carpet & charity events and other special occasions as a Hollywood correspondent interviewing some of Hollywood's finest stars from Will Smith, Monique, Travis Barker, Paige Hurd  and Bow  Wow to Cedric Yarbrough, Mario, Akon and Mark Bunin just to name a few.  kweisi is the founder of kgPR which has provided services to worked with organizations like The Floyd Mayweather Foundation, Metta World Peace’s Xcel University, Hill Harper’s foundation, Stop Bullying Now Foundation and The Artist’s for Peace Concert honoring Stevie Wonder. He has produced lifestyle events for, Vinicius Machado, Marcus Paulk, Claudia Jordan, Gina Yashere, and has hosted red carpet’s for Interscope Records and Ludacris’ BET Awards After-party. kweisi's clients varied from celebrities to professional athletes.

kweisi has moved back to Chicago to help address the gun-violence in Chicago. He is a producer; he is still pitching his film and TV content to potential distribution partners.  kweisi produced Kanye West's Congratulatory Videography for WGCI and the Chicago Mayor's Office when Kanye received the key to the city in February 2005.  He produced an independent film which won two film festival awards.  He has produced television, radio and webisode commercials, several music videos and two webisode comedy sketches for Daman Wayans.  kweisi has worked as an assistant to the director for BET's '06 Award promos featuring Daman Wayans and the BET '07 "Be Inspired" segments featuring Fantasia, Omarion, Cuba Gooding, Mario, Chris Brown and Wood Harris. Prior to the pandemic, kweisi, pre-pandemic was volunteering at his children's schools teaching K-5th graders poetry.
